If you’re like me, you love having plants around the house but at this point you’re actually nothing more than a serial plant murderer. It’s sad, but very true. Luckily there are people working hard on saving the plants and one of them is designer Sinan Anayurt. He designed the conceptual Lily digital vase as part of Dezeen’s and LG Display’s OLED Go! competition.
Digital plants don’t die
The design was inspired by the permeable screen technology and has a bit of an Apple feel to it (sorry LG). The virtual vase uses transparent OLED technology to display different plants or flowers that you never have to care for. That means you don’t have to worry about watering your plants anymore and it doesn’t matter if there’s no sunlight to speak of. Of course there’s an accompanying app to choose which flowers or plants you’d like to accompany you for the day.
The designer explains that Lily doesn’t need any specific requirements. The digital vase should appeal to every user who wants to add plants as decoration, but doesn’t want to worry about keeping them alive.
OLED Go! competition
The OLED Go! competition is a global contest that motivates designers to showcase OLED technology in new and creative ways. Contestants are free to design any kind of product, as long as it incorporates OLED technology. But incorporating OLED technology alone isn’t enough to win. Dezeen and LG are looking for innovative ways for OLED to solve problems or enhance people’s lives. If you’re interested you can still enter through the Dezeen website. The total prize money is a pretty nice 46,000 euros, which is about 56,186 USD.
