As the world has been stuck at home lately, many of us have turned to online shopping. And it seems Facebook is cleverly trying to take advantage of the situation. The company has just made it possible to shop directly through Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook Shops
On Tuesday Facebook announced the roll out of the new shopping possibility: Facebook Shops. The shops in question can be found on the Facebook page or Instagram account of participating businesses or through stories and adds. The idea is that when you’re on a certain page and like what you see, you can take immediate shopping action. And just like you might ask for some assistance in a brick and mortar store, it’s also possible to get some online help through myriad of Facebook apps: Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs.

Live video shopping
Apart from online shopping, something else that has gained popularity lately is the live video. We’ve been massively busy with Zoom meetings, online tutorials and Skype gatherings. And yes you guessed it, Facebook has also picked up on that. The company has even combined online shopping with live videos. When businesses initiate a live stream, they have the option of linking to their social media shop within the video. And in the future they should also be able to sell you things directly from a chat.
So as we see companies have different possibilities to get you spending money. According to Facebook the new shops are a way to help small businesses that are struggling at the moment. A very noble gesture, although we suspect the move is also quite lucrative for the Zuckerberg company itself. Either way we’re not complaining 😉
