Every era comes with its own problems and things to be fixated on and in this day and age followers are an important part of life. However not all of us are equally blessed with millions of fans. If you find yourself lacking those coveted followers, the social media simulator app Botnet might just be the fix you need.
You and a million bots
As the name would suggest Botnet uses bots to populate its social media network. It’s a social media simulator where you are the only human along with a million bots. And the great thing about these bots? They’re all obsessed with you.
That means that all of your posts get a whole lot of likes and comments, so you never again have to experience that awkward silence. Its makers advertise the app as “the one place you can truly be yourself” and as a “searchable life journal”. Since only the bots can read your posts, in theory it could indeed work as some kind of interactive diary. But if this were a movie we know that at some point all of your secrets would leak, which could end up being hilarious, thrilling or even sinister.

Botnet is the brainchild of Billy Chasen (turntable.fm) and started out as a thought experiment. Chasen told Mashable over an email that it was all about finding a way to use bots for good, considering all the negative uses lately. “What if there are always people to talk to and share opinions with? Maybe the world would feel less lonely (albeit simulated).”
Only for iOS
If you want to try out first hand if Botnet makes you feel less lonely, you can get it in the App Store. Unfortunately there’s no Android version yet, but that might change in the future. The app is free to download and use, but you could spice things up for 99 cents and get either a dad bot or a troll bot (now who would want that?). And if you find that you need some extra love, 99 cents will also get you twice as many bots to show you how much they love you.
Of course some people don’t care all that much about online love, but do miss some real-life attention. If that sounds like you, Samsung might have a whole different bot to shower you with attention. Earlier this year the company unveiled Ballie: a little rolling robot to take care of your needs in the house.
