It seems that Amazon is a big fan of drones. The company has been working on a drone delivery system for quite some time and now they want their drones flying around your home as well. Amazon recently revealed a whole batch of new products and services. One of them being a flying security camera to patrol your house while you’re out.
Amazon drone vs. burglar
The new drone AKA the “Always Home Cam” is part of the Ring security family and should scare away unwelcome “guests”, at least according to the promotional video. In the video we see an unsuspecting burglar going about his business when suddenly the drone jumps into action. Taken aback by the flying device the burglar makes a speedy exit, while the home owner uses the app to witness the whole thing.

As the name suggests, the drone is meant as a tool to on the one hand see what’s going on at home while you’re away. You might want to check if you left the stove on or if there’s a window open. On the other hand the device is also triggered when Ring’s security system senses a break-in and lifts off to explore. Luckily it can also autonomously fly back to its base to continue charging.
Privacy first
The company has stated that the thing was “designed with privacy first”. However some digital security and privacy experts are concerned about the potential implications. You might imagine someone hacking the drone, giving the culprit free range to roam about your house. Now more than ever we have to be careful when weighing the handiness of a device against the privacy concerns.
But for now we don’t have to worry about all that. The Amazon drone is set for release somewhere next year and should cost 250 USD. Initially it will only be available in the US.
In the past Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa has also been cause for privacy concerns. If you’re not too worried about that though, you should definitely check out these five ways you can incorporate Alexa into your beauty routine.
