Last year IKEA teamed up with Sonos to create the SYMFONISK collection: a set of wifi speakers disguised as either a lamp or a floating bookshelf. And although the speakers looked stylish, there wasn’t a whole lot of color going on. Recently that has changed with a fresh set of colorful covers to give the speakers a bit more oomph.

Red and blue SYMFONISK speakers

The covers are available in red and blue. In the case of the table lamp speaker, the base is glammed up with the new color of your choice. For the bookshelf speaker IKEA has two new fronts to attach to the device and add a pop of color to the side.

Late last year the Swedish company already dropped some hints about new colors. Back then there was still some speculation about how they would go about doing that. And now we know: covers. The base speakers are still only available in white and black with grayish tones. It is actually more practical to use covers than to launch actual red and blue speakers. This way you get to switch things up for an affordable price.

Reasonable prices

Because luckily the covers won’t put a dent in your wallet. The lamp covers are 10 euros, which is about 11.72 USD. As for the booshelf fronts, you can get them for 8 euros (9.37 USD). Yes I guess you noticed the prices are in euros. That’s because the covers aren’t available (yet) in the US. Hopefully that will change soon.

It seems to be a trend these days to disguise speakers as home accessories. Another example is the Sauberair FLAT. It looks like a painting, is secretly a air purifier and also has speakers to boot.
